WELCOME

 The Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre (SSMIC), founded in 1999, is a catalyst for growth in the information technology (IT) and knowledge based sectors for economic development in the city and Algoma District.

We work closely with community partners to enhance and improve opportunities.

The Innovation Centre is focused on three core areas:

  • Business Incubation: to encourage the establishment and growth of technology start-ups;
  • Support Services: to assist the SME (Small to Medium Enterprise) IT community;
  • Market Development Projects: The development of strategic market segments including health informatics, video gaming and the highly successful GIS project, which serves a number of municipal customers and is responsible for the growth of private sector GIS firms in the Algoma District.
    • SSMIC operates an award-winning Community Geomatics Centre (CGC) that provides consulting services and products to health and human services organizations, government and private sector organizations. Our GIS solution has been touted as the most comprehensive solution in Canada. Products include 3D GIS Solution for disease outbreak, asset and facility management. Some services offered by the CGC include GIS strategic plans, mapping solutions, data analysis and Municipal and Utility Management.
