SSMART IT Awards

Building awareness of our technology leaders and showcasing the talent and potential we have in Algoma is an important role the SSMIC plays. The SSMIC launched a highly successful IT Awards program in 2005 for Sault Ste. Marie and the Algoma region. The award nominees and recipients were an excellent illustration of the technologically gifted individuals that constitute our growing and vibrant IT community.

Categories:

IT Company of the Year
This award acknowledges a company's leadership through the innovation of its technology products or services, the sustained growth of its assets and its dedication to community involvement. Technology should be the innovative energy fuelling this emerging or expanding company [read more and/see this year's winners].

IT Student/Graduate of the Year
This award acknowledges an individual who has made a substantial contribution to the technology sector through his/her university/college work. Contributions may be through outstanding academic achievement; leadership in the area of technology transfer, or the commercialization of new technology; development of innovative processes and products; diversity of research, scholarship, leadership, entrepreneurship [read more and/see this year's winners].

Best Website Award
This award acknowledges the people and/or organization within Algoma responsible for developing the most effective website. This award is open to both local organizations who own the website and/or local web design companies who have designed a website [read more and/see this year's winners].

IT Executive of the Year
This award acknowledges an IT Executive whose leadership and/or creative use of technology has helped to advance their organizations, to improve client/customer services and have a positive impact on the IT community or the community at large. This Executive can be from any size organization (large company, government department, small to medium sized enterprise, etc.) [read more and/see this year's winners]

IT Project of the Year
This award acknowledges an organization whose IT project demonstrates leadership and/or creative use of technology. An ideal project would include benefits such as the advancement of the organization, improvement of client/customer services and a positive impact on the IT community or the community at large. This award was designed for organizations that are not IT companies but are using technology as an enabler to better serve operations and/or clients [read more and/see this year's winners].

*NEW* - IT Youth of the Year
A new category in 2007, this award acknowledges a youth who has made a substantial contribution to the technology sector through education, volunteer work or through a sheer passion for the industry. This youth can be from any grade, up to grade 12 [read more and/see this year's winners]

Guest Speakers from Research In Motion:

Rosalynn Medaglia
Director of Marketing, AT&T
Research In Motion Limited


Rosalynn Medaglia is the Director of Marketing for AT&T at Research In Motion, where she oversees all marketing strategies and product marketing launches for one of RIM’s largest carrier partners. Most recently, Rosalynn lead the US marketing launch of BlackBerry Curve. This included a sponsorship of John Mayer’s US summer tour, which is currently up for a “marketing program of the year award” by Billboard.

Prior to her current role, Rosalynn spent the last seven years at Research In Motion in various channel marketing capacities. This included work with network carriers in North America, Asia Pacific, and Europe, where she helped expand their BlackBerry business, as well as introduce new BlackBerry devices.

Prior to RIM, Rosalynn held sales and marketing roles at Hewlett-Packard, Petro Canada, and Ipsos Reid. Rosalynn is a graduate of Wilfrid Laurier University and holds an Honors Degree in Business Administration. She is a native of Sault Ste. Marie and a graduate of Mount Ste. Joseph College.

Angelo Fasulo
Director Carrier Management, Rogers Wireless
Research In Motion Limited
 

As Director, Carrier Management, Angelo Fasulo is responsible for RIM’s relationship with Rogers Wireless Communications. Responsibilities include sales, product, operations and supply chain planning and management.

For the past year Angelo held a similar role with Cingular Wireless. Previous to his work in North America, for three years, Angelo lived and worked in Asia-Pacific for Research In Motion, Angelo drove the success of RIM in the region and was responsible for RIM’s relationships with leading telecom operators, including Hutchison in Hong Kong, SingTel in Singapore, Globe Telecom in the Philippines, Optus in Australia and Bharti in India.

Angelo was among the founding team to build RIM’s operation in Asia Pacific. He established the Hong Kong office and successfully launched BlackBerry for the first time in the Asia in 2002.

Angelo holds an Honors Degree in Business Administration at Wilfrid Laurier University. He is a native of Sault Ste. Marie and a graduate of St. Mary’s College.
