The contest has closed but you can still create a podcast of your very own!
How do you create a podcast?
A podcast can be created on a voice recorder, video camera, digital camera, web cam, or any device that records audio and/or video. The process can be as simple or complex as you wish, edited or unedited, with music or without.
The topics below can help you with the process of making a podcast
Once you have chosen the entrepreneur you would like to feature in your podcast it is time to contact them for an interview. It would be best to go into their place of business introduce yourself and explain why you would like to interview them. Be sure to let the entrepreneur know that you would like to record the interview, and post it online as a podcast.
Set up a date and time to meet with the entrepreneur. If you plan your podcast well you will only need to take up about 10 minutes of their time. If you are using a camera for you podcast you should ask for permission to videotape their place of business.
If you are having trouble finding an entrepreneur to interview, don’t give up! Entrepreneurs are everywhere! Try your local convenience store owner, your dentist, a carpenter, a hairdresser, or maybe you have a family member that owns their own business! There are also entrepreneurs that the Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre can get you in contact with!
It would be wise to get the entrepreneur and anyone else that appears in your podcast to sign a media release form before you put the podcast online.
Write a Script:
Before you arrive at your interview you should have a script in your hand. If you do not plan on editing your podcast once it is recorded it is recommended that you make a storyboard to ensure that you are taping everything in the proper order. You can use the storyboard provided to outline the order in which you want to say things and ask questions so that your podcast flows seamlessly.
-your introduction of the entrepreneur (maybe you want to read a short biography about them or describe their business atmosphere and location)
-your questions for the entrepreneur
-your closing remarks for the podcast

Remember: Ideas and questions may shift considerably based on the words and actions of the person you interview. If you are using images or sounds that someone else produced or recorded, you will need permission to use them in your podcast.
Here are some quick tips to consider before you start recording:
Make sure you have charged the batteries for any equipment you will be using.
Bring extra batteries, extension cords, a tripod or a friend to hold the camera if you want to be in the shot, etc.
When picking your locations:
Be sure you have permission to record at the location you choose.
Make a note of what the light and sound is like at your chosen location. Are there any elements (water from a stream, traffic noise, a ceiling fan) that will cause a distortion in sound? If you are using video, is the area well lit?
If you plan to record outdoors, pay attention to the weather forecast three to four days in advance.
Do not include scenes containing physical conflict, violence or weapons of any kind.
Give advanced notice of when and where you will be filming to the people who are helping. Let them know in advance what their roles will be or what extra details they may need.
If you are recording with video, make sure to let people who will appear on camera know that they should avoid clothes that have visible logos or brands, as these are copyrighted images.
Review your equipment's operating manual. Make sure you are familiar with the key functions that you will need and practice using the equipment if you are not familiar with it.
Have your script with you at all times as it will keep you on track while recording.
Once you have completed recording your podcast you may want to edit it so that it flows properly. If you planned ahead and took some time to write a script, your need for editing should be minimal.
