Gore Street Revitalization Area Demographics Report (2014)

Client: United Way of Sault Ste. Marie and District

The CGC was asked to compile a number of statistics for the Gore Street Revitalization area of Sault Ste. Marie for the United Way’s Action for Community Change Project.  The CGC developed a comprehensive socio-demographics report focusing on the comparison of four different geographic areas: the Gore Street Revitalization Area, Downtown Sault Ste. Marie, the City of Sault Ste. Marie, and Ontario as a whole.  The topics of focus for the report included: labour and employment, income, education, family, ethnicity, housing, and mobility.  All of the data used was collected from the 2006 and 2011 Censuses of Canada, T1 Family File (Taxfiler) data from 2010, and the 2011 National Household Survey (NHS).  Data was mapped for comparisons with other neighbourhoods within the city and graphed for comparison with the different geographic areas of interest.

The report was used in part by the United Way to validate that their efforts within the Gore Street Revitalization Area are necessary and are bringing value to the neighbourhood.
