A Local Food Adventure - Shop, Taste, Experience Local and WIN

Buy Algoma, Buy Local - Read it here first! Stay tuned for the official launch of the Local Food Trail this Friday! 

Hit the Local Food Trail, a self-guided local food adventure from Wawa to Algoma Mills and everywhere in between. The route gives people an extra incentive to support local.  By tasting some remarkable locally inspired dishes, shopping for local products or experiencing a tour at over 60 farm-gates, farmers’ markets, restaurants & cafes, breweries, wineries, and retailers and you could win one of five prizes, valued at over $1,800. 

How it works:

1. Visit a Trail Stop 
Explore the Local Food & Drink Map (coming Friday), find over 60 of our favourite local spots or check out our itineraries providing unique and authentic local food experiences that you will not want to miss. A new itinerary is released every week! 

2. Taste, Shop or Experience
Start making memories with friends and family at a Local Trail Stop location. Dine at a restaurant, shop at a farmers’ market, or take a tour at an Alpaca Farm, there is something for everyone!

3. Collect Your Stamp 
Snap a picture and check-in to your trail stop location by uploading your picture on the Buy Algoma, Buy Local website (coming Friday). Once your picture is uploaded, you will receive your digital stamp. 

4. Win 
Collect three or more stamps and you will start earning entries to win. The more you collect, the better your chances to win. You will also receive recognition as a Local Food Lover, Local Food Enthusiast or Local Food Connoisseur.

#Experience Local | Local Food Connoisseur 
Win a 2020 Community Shared Agriculture (CSA) box from a local farmer near you, 16 weeks of locally grown vegetables and a private winery or brewery tour for four. Valued at over $500.00. The Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre will host a conference at the end of May that promises to give attendees a fresh perspective on how innovative thinking can help northern communities reach their potential. The two-day gathering will also welcome some well-known keynote speakers, including former NHL player, coach and recently published author Ted Nolan, and host of CBC’s Quirks and Quarks Bob McDonald, among others. The “Stir the Potential” conference takes place at the Delta Waterfront Hotel on May 27 and 28.
