The Hour of Code up for the challenge winners are announced

It is with great pleasure that we share that student, Sebastien Haapala from Central Algoma Secondary School won the “Student” Prize for the recent SSMIC Up for the Challenge contest as part of Hour of Code and Computer Science Education Week. Sebastien is the lucky participant that won a $50 Amazon gift card.

Mme. Ellis' 8A Class from F.H. Clergue won the "Class" Prize for participating in the Hour of Code activities during last week's Computer Science Education Week and will be awarded a pizza party for the whole class.

The Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre invited youth in Algoma to join over 100 million students in celebrating computer science with an Hour of Code. In the “Up for the Challenge” contest we asked elementary and secondary school students to share their participation in the world-wide Hour of Code event. It was a hugely successful campaign and we had over 300 students participate across 14 local schools including:

H.M. Robbins P.S.

River View Public School

Parkland Public School

White Pines C&VS

F.H. Clergue

R.M. Moore School

Mountain View P.S.

Queen Elizabeth P.S.

Central Algoma Intermediate School

Echo Bay Central School

Elliot Lake Secondary School

Holy Cross

St. Mary's College

Korah C&VS

Through participation in the Hour Of Code, we are hopeful students gained valuable knowledge and recognized the importance of preparing for jobs of the future. Hopefully this activity has sparked an interest in technology that will continue .

Congratulations Sebastien and Mme. Ellis' 8A class!!
